Most Swedish museums let you walk up, but the popular ones run timed slots and the city passes only pay off above a certain number of stops. These 15 set out what each covers and when the maths works.
Spend a full day at Skansen, Stockholm’s open-air museum, among historic homes, farmsteads, working crafts, Nordic wildlife, domestic breeds, and seasonal events. The ticket is flexible during opening hours, but food, drinks, and some attractions may cost extra. Wear sturdy shoes: the grounds are broad and hilly.

Use one digital pass for 1 to 5 consecutive days of Stockholm sightseeing. Visit the Vasa Museum, Royal Palace, Skansen, Viking Museum, Fotografiska, and more, then add cruises, buses, SkyView, ICEBAR, or fika. Reservations are needed for some popular activities, and the pass works best when you start early.

Visit the Nobel Prize Museum on Stortorget in Gamla Stan for a self-guided look at laureates, Alfred Nobel, and the prize’s origins. Your ticket includes special exhibitions and daily guided tours in English and Swedish. Allow 1 to 2 hours, or longer if you watch the films and read the object labels.

At Stockholm’s AVICII EXPERIENCE, you follow Tim Bergling’s path from bedroom music maker to global star. Use interactive music stations, enter recreated personal spaces, hear unreleased material, and learn about his creative partners and private struggles. The English audio guide helps you move at your own pace. Allow about two hours, though devoted fans may stay longer.

Spend a full day exploring Fotografiska at Stadsgården, Stockholm’s leading photography center. See changing exhibitions by established and emerging image-makers, then pause at the bistro or top-floor restaurant for food and Baltic Sea views. Your $22 admission is valid for one day, and the museum is open until 11 PM most days.

At Malmö’s Disgusting Food Museum, you’ll see 80 foods judged among the world’s most disgusting, then test your nerve at the smelling and tasting stations. Try notorious cheese, unusual sweets, and other challenging samples. Plan on one to two hours, and book ahead for the $25.25 admission.

Visit Fotografiska Stockholm at your own pace with admission valid anytime from 10am to 11pm on your booked date. See changing photography exhibitions, browse the gift shop, and stop at the bistro or top-floor restaurant for city views. The ticket includes admission and fees, but not food, drinks, guided tours, or tips.

Meet your English-speaking guide at Stockholm’s Vasa Museum for a two-hour visit with admission included. Guides such as Gaia, Katherine, Viola, Sophie, and Kyra bring the ship’s story to life with clear explanations, questions, and lesser-known details. The group is capped at 14 people, and the tour ends where it begins.

At Stockholm’s Viking Museum, you’ll trace Viking raids, sea journeys, shipbuilding, farm life, and Norse mythology through films, projections, artifacts, replicas, and sound. A multilingual audio guide helps, while guides in Viking dress answer questions. The 11-minute Ragnfrid’s Saga ride follows Ragnfrid and Harald from farm life to raids and slave trading.
“This is an old-style museum with artifacts and panels to read, not very interactive. The leaders "tour" and person at display with artifacts were knowledgeable and shared this easily and friendly. We learned tons about Vikings (much of what we thought we knew was myth/legend).”
Spend a full day at Nordiska Museet on Royal Djurgården, exploring Nordic Life and exhibits on the Arctic, table settings, fashion, a 1940s flat, and dollhouses. Read texts on your phone or use the Swedish or English audio guide. Bring headphones, and plan time for the shop and Swedish fika.

At Malmö’s Disgusting Food Museum, you’ll explore strange food displays, sniff foul odors, pose in the disgust photo booth, and sample unusual bites at the tasting bar. Your ticket includes the tasting session, with staff explaining each food. Allow about 90 minutes, and come prepared for strong smells and sensitive images.

Use a mobile Go City pass for 2 to 5 consecutive calendar days and enter 50-plus Stockholm attractions with a QR code. Use one digital Go City pass for more than 20 Gothenburg attractions, including Universeum, Röhsska Museum, the Paddan boat, maritime museums, hop-on hop-off tours, Aeroseum, and a heritage tram. Choose 1, 2, 3, or 5 consecutive days. Seasonal activities and reservations require careful planning.
“It was avery wet day and we only managed to use the app for 2 of the places we wanted to visit. So, I would suggest checking what is covered on here and if it is worth the cost of entrance. As places like Lisberg and World of Volvo are not included.”
At Skansen-Akvariet, you can see more than 30 animal species from around the world, including monkeys, crocodiles, sloths, snakes, parrots, turtles, and coral-reef fish. On weekends and school holidays, pet a snake and tarantula. On sunny days from May to September, walk among ring-tailed lemurs. A separate Skansen ticket is required.
